Three felons were arrested by Spokane Police and guns and drugs were seized from a nuisance home in East Central Spokane on Wednesday.
Subsequent to receiving a tip and later confirming that Derick Arias, a multiple time convicted felon with a violent history, was hiding out on the 2100 block of E. 5th Ave., SWAT and K9 members assisted them to take him into custody. He was wanted on a felony warrant for escape, after an original charge of attempted first-degree robbery.
Before capturing Arias, police also arrested Karen Orona, the renter of the property, on two counts of possession of a controlled substance. Arias’ sister, Nicole Arias, was arrested for an outstanding felony and misdemeanor warrants.
A search warrant granted for the home prompted the seizure of methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and several guns, including two assault rifles, a hunting rifle, two handguns and body armor.
Because Derick Arias and Orona are convicted felons, they are not permitted to be in possession of firearms or ammunition which meant that they were also charged with first-degree unlawful possession of firearms.
