New Jersey Teacher Assaulted Police, Had Marijuana and Sex Toys in Car, Police Say

According to authorities, a Hudson County high school teacher has been arrested in Ridgefield Park after pushing a police officer in a parking garage.

Jean-Claude Santini, 40, a teacher at Union City High School, has been charged with resisting arrest, assault on a police officer, obstruction, and multiple drug offenses, according to Ridgefield Park police.

A statement was issued on Wednesday afternoon by Union City’s superintendent of schools Silvia Abbato, affirming that Santini has been suspended as a result of the arrest.

Authorities were called to the area of the AMC movie theater to investigate a “suspicious vehicle” in the parking garage around 8 p.m. and found Santini inside the vehicle with a woman. Santini was seen attempting to hide something in the car when officers got to him and the woman escaped on foot, police said.

According to authorities, Santini allegedly got out of the vehicle and pushed the officer up against another car. The two wrestled on the ground until the officer was able to secure him.

Police searched the car and discovered marijuana, a hatchet, and sex toys, police said.  The woman in the car is yet to be identified.

“The district has not seen any police reports on this incident, nor have we been notified of this arrest by the Department of Education Criminal History Review Unit,” Abbato said in a statement. “Nevertheless, we are deeply concerned with the allegations and have decided to suspend the teacher until further notice.”
