A Columbia County man has turned himself in to the sheriff’s office in Lake City on Wednesday morning after being accused of punching his estranged wife and firing guns on Tuesday night.
According to a sheriff’s news release, Thomas Defoor, 58, was charged with multiple offenses.
The incident started when deputies responded to calls of shots being fired at a home on Southeast Robinhood Place in southern Columbia County.
The release said the deputies learned that Defoor’s estranged wife and her boyfriend were on the porch when Defoor punched her and pulled a handgun, threatening to kill her. The boyfriend pushed Defoor, who fell and a round was fired.
Deputies were able to get the gun from Defoor and got into the house, locking him out. Defoor attempted to get in the back of the house, deputies said, which made the man and woman run into some woods.
Deputies said immediately got inside the house, Defoor got a rifle and fired several rounds into the cars of his wife and her boyfriend, deputies said.
Defoor turned himself in at about 10 a.m. on Wednesday and was arrested on charges of attempted murder, aggravated assault, domestic battery and criminal mischief.
