Fort Pierce Man Faces Added Murder Charge Months After Arrest in Beating

A man from Fort Pierce accused in December for beating a man and leaving him on a Port St. Lucie road is currently facing an added murder charge in connection with the incident.

Jordan Brown, 32, was arrested on December 2 and charged with aggravated battery on a person 65 or older. Deputies said Brown and a friend were at a bar in Lakewood Park when Brown and another patron became involved in a verbal altercation.

According to Brown’s initial arrest affidavit, he said the man started “bragging about having sex with a 14-year-old.” The suspect at that point confronted the man, and an argument followed.

Brown changed his account of the details that followed in an interview with deputies but finally said his friend drove them all to Port St. Lucie. While driving, Brown said he was physically fighting with the man. At some point, they stopped and he and the man fell out of the car and continued fighting in the roadway, Brown told deputies.

Deputies said that Brown at that point left the man and drove off with his friend. Brown then told his friend to get out of the car and fled.

Deputies responded to the area in Port St. Lucie about 11:40 p.m. that day after reports of an injured person lying in the roadway. According to deputies, the man was transported to a hospital with swelling to the face and hands, broken orbital socket, broken cheekbone and internal bleeding of the brain.

A warrant was issued by the State Attorney’s Office for an added charge of second-degree murder after the man died from his injuries. Brown was arrested on Tuesday and transported to the St. Lucie County Jail, where he remains held on a $250,000 bail.

As of 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, the Sheriff’s Office did not release the name of the man who died.
