Officers were dispatched to a gas station in Westport on what at first was reported as an armed robbery of an Uber driver on Wednesday, June 20 at approximately 1 a.m.
According to Westport police, upon arriving at the scene, officers learned that the Uber driver pulled into the gas station after he was sexually assaulted by a passenger.
The passenger had been picked up at the Greens Farms train station. Shortly after getting into the vehicle, the suspect made sexual comments to the victim and groped him, police said.
The victim also reported that the suspect started masturbating in the back seat.
The victim pulled into a gas station and called the police on his cell phone after the suspect left the car.
Before the arrival of the police, the suspect fled the scene on foot.
The suspect was identified as Jason Karlen of Westport by officers and took him into custody at his residence.
Karlen was charged with sexual assault, public indecency and threatening and was held in lieu of $10,000 bond and was taken to Norwalk Court for arraignment later that morning.
