A former pastor at a Gibson County church has pleaded guilty this week to an aggravated sexual battery of a child.
According to court documents, James Marcus, 72, pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated sexual battery of a 13-year-old child. Marcus will serve eight years in the Tennessee Department of Correction as part of the plea agreement and must register as a sex offender for life.
According to court documents, Marcus entered the plea on Monday.
Marcus served as a pastor at Fairview Church of Christ north of Milan.
According to the Gibson County Sheriff’s Office, he was arrested in May 2016 on the charges and he told investigators that he touched a child inappropriately within the space of four years until the child was 10.
