A teenager has died from gunshot wounds after being shot by a convenience store clerk for stealing a beer.
28-year-old Anwar Ghazali has been arrested by Police in Tennessee shooting 17-year-old Dorian Harris to death. Ghazali claimed the teen was a shoplifter saying he caught him stealing beer.
The incident occurred on Thursday, but police said Ghazali never reported the incident. The body of Harris was found beside a home near the store at 3:52 p.m. on Saturday.
According to investigators, Harris stole one beer from the store on Thursday night. Ghazali then drew his weapon from the right side of his body and exited the store after Harris. Ghazali ran after Harris and fired several shots at him.
Witnesses said Ghazali then walked back into the store and said, “I think I shot him.” Ghazali never called the police after he shot Harris.
A woman came home and found Harris’ body on the side of her home on Saturday afternoon, according to police reports.
According to the Commercial Appeal reports, Memphis police charged Ghazali with first-degree murder on Saturday.
Ghazali was being held in the Shelby County Jail. He will appear in court on Monday.
