According to court documents, a 37-year-old Bogalusa man was sentenced on Tuesday to life in prison in the second-degree murder of his ex-girlfriend, the mother of his child, in Pearl River nearly two years ago.
Jonathan Talley was also sentenced to 20 years for possessing a firearm as a convicted felon and was sentenced to additional 40 years for second-degree kidnapping for leaving the murder scene with his 3-year-old son disregarding a protective order that obligated him to stay away from the boy and his mother. These charges were without the probation, parole or suspension.
Judge Scott Gardner ruled over the case.
A St. Tammany Parish jury found Talley guilty of all three charges on May 11 after a weeklong trial that inspected the 2016 murder of Aimee Kirst. Assistant District Attorneys Casey Dieck and Jay Adair had contended in the trial that an enraged Talley went to Kirst’s Pearl River home with the intention to kill her and then shot the 33-year old in the back of the head as she attempted to hide in their son’s bedroom.
The shooting was witnessed by the couple’s then 3-year-old son. Talley kidnapped the boy when he left the scene.
