Amenia Man Gets 25 to Life After Been Charged for Predatory Sexual Assault Against Child

According to Dutchess County Senior Assistant District Attorney Allison Stuart, John Moran from a Town of Amenia was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison in the wake of being found guilty of predatory sexual assault against a child in January.

In June 2017, Moran was charged after police said he spent years sexually assaulting a child younger than 13 in his home.

Moran got sentenced to a year in prison this week after being found guilty of endangering the welfare of a child, which Stuart said will be joined with the best charge of predatory sexual assault against a child. The sentence of 25-to-life is the most extreme sentence permitted.

A report was given to the state police on May 31, 2017 by a former Wassaic woman that she had been the victim of sexual offenses as a child.

According to state police, it was revealed by an investigation that the woman was subjected to a “course of sexual contact” by Moran while below the age of 13 which occurred over several years at Moran’s Amenia residence.
